Invariant Corporation is seeking a highly experienced Mechanical Engineer to support upcoming and anticipated defense programs. You will provide technical leadership in the design, development, and qualification of advanced weapon system components for C-UxS programs. In this role, you will serve to drive complex mechanical design solutions, ensuring they meet stringent military performance, reliability, and producibility requirements.
Duties Include:
- Support the design and development of mechanical subsystems for weapons platforms, including structures, housings, actuators, mechanisms, and more.
- Provide technical oversight of CAD modeling, engineering drawings, and documentation in compliance with ASME Y14 and MIL-STD requirements.
- Guide material selection and manufacturing processes to ensure performance in extreme conditions, including high shock, vibration, and thermal environments (MIL-STD-810).
- Lead design reviews (PDR, CDR) and present technical content to internal leadership, prime contractors, and government customers.
- Support root cause investigations of hardware failures, develop corrective actions, and ensure lessons learned are applied program-wide.
- Collaborate with systems engineering, integration & test, and manufacturing teams to ensure requirements are met and products are production-ready.
- Contribute to long-term technology insertion and mechanical design innovation across the product line.
Requirements:
- Candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering or greater with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
- Experience creating robust engineering drawings for manufacturing using Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Minimum Active Secret Clearance.
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship is a requirement for positions requiring a Security Clearance.
- Current Passport.
- Experience using Arena Product Lifecyle Manager (PLM) or similar.
- Experience using Solidworks CAD for mechanical design and FEA.
- Travel approx. 10-20% on average with surges of 2-3 weeks at a time one to two times a year.
Preferred Qualifications: Requirements:
- Proven success in a team environment, working collaboratively with peers across a variety of backgrounds and skillsets, including engineering, technicians, and machinists.
- Knowledge of common mechanical, electrical, and optical components, mounting, interfaces, bonding, etc.
- Experience applying design for manufacturing and assembly principles.
- Hands-on problem solving using rapid prototyping and fabrication skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in designing additive manufacturing processes.
Requires ability to:
- Demonstrate innovation, quick learning, excellent communication skills and adaptive thinking.
- Work independently with minimal supervision, making rational decisions, and exercising good judgment is essential
- Lead a group of engineers through the maturation of a product and interface regularly with Government Customers providing updates from the development team
Work Environment:
- Sitting for extended periods of time at desk, in telecoms/meetings with peers, management.
- Lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to use stairs for access between floors and multiple buildings at customer worksites and Invariant facilities during travel.
